About the exam

KITEX is an accredited state (recognised and certified by the state) language exam that is conducted by the certified language centre, KITEX in 12 towns in Hungary. It is a monolingual language exam that measures the level of English language for special purposes (Tourism or Trade).

Measured levels are B1, B2 and C1 in accordance with the requirements set out for levels B1, B2 and C1 Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The exam can be:

Oral – A

Written – B

Complex – C

KITEX exam C1 level (Tourism or Trade)

The complex exam is comprised of two parts (oral and written) that could be taken separately.

At the oral exam speaking skills are measured as well as listening skills.

Listening tasks:

  1. After listening to the text candidates have to decide if the given statements are true of false.
  2. After listening to the text candidates have to choose the correct solution (A, B or C).
  3. After listening to the text candidates have to answer the questions about the text.

Speaking tasks:

  1. The candidates have to answer the interlocutor’s questions and discuss a given topic.
  2. The candidates have to participate in a role-play simulating a tourism- or trade-related situation while showing their language knowledge as well as professional expertise.
  3. The candidates have to speak about a professional topic (with the help of a picture) from a professional point of view.

At the written exam reading comprehension skills are measured as well as writing skills.

Reading comprehension tasks:

  1. The candidates have to fill in the gaps in a tourism- or trade-related text with the appropriate words from the list.
  2. The candidates have to fill in the gaps in a tourism- or trade-related text with the appropriate parts of the text from the list.
  3. The candidates have to complete statements about a tourism- or trade-related text choosing the best option (A, B or C).

Writing tasks:

  1. The candidates have to write a formal business (tourism or trade) letter.
  2. The candidates have to write a tourism- or trade-related composition (newspaper article, report, proposal, etc.)
